Excellence Descriptors Commonly Used

excellenceThink back for a moment when you left an event and said “WOW, that was excellent”. Now think about what made that event excellent? There are many words that we use to describe something and there is a progression of them. Here are some words we use in order of what we think about something.

Good, Better, Best;  Good, Great , Excellent;  Ok, Pretty good , Wow

The point is why would be not want the latter of all those for everything we do? Let’s do excellence! It’s easier said than done i am afraid. There are lots of variables in getting results that are good verses excellent.  Celestine Chua wrote a great article on her blog titles 10 Steps to Achieve Excellence in Anything. Her number one point was you have to have a desire for excellence. I agree with her that if you have no desire for it, it will probably not happen. But, I also believe that excellence is first a choice, then a desire. That is true with anything we do.

I presented her article to our staff of 10 ministers and proposed that we should begin reading her 10 steps and implementing them in all we do. I asked the question to each person how they would describe excellence and here is our compiled list. As you prepare for a project, event, or whatever you are planning  use the following as a check list. We came us with a 12 Point Check List to do Excellence.

As yourself  “Will what I am planning have or be each of these points?”

1. absent of mistakes and flaws

2. accomplished the purpose

3. well oiled machine

4. impressive

5. above and beyond expectation

6. meet or exceeds the goal

7. innovative

8. creative

9. precision

10. high quality

11. top notch and the best

12. well planned out details in advance

I believe we have the beginning of excellence with these points along with the 12 steps referenced. Now it is up to you to follow through and make the change from good to excellence. I know that we all have done excellence in something at some time! Do you remember the feeling after the event and the wow factor from attendees?

Excellence is not just FOR the attendees but more for you!
