Part 1 of my new blog series called Church Adventures asks what would you do in this situation! It seems I go on these church adventures quit often, getting my self in a big mess. Sound familiar? Well, here is one that is really a long story but I am only giving you the condensed version.
Sleep Over In Chicago
I was returning home from Chicago to DFW from a conference. I have been using buddy passes from my nephew with Continental Airlines for years and this was one of those times. Flying standby means you are fit into a flight that has empty seats. I started out that morning at 7am with flights out about every 3 hours. I missed every one the first day and ended up getting a room at the airport Hilton for $275.
The next morning I arrive back at the terminal optimistic I would get out this time. Incredibly I missed every flight that day and finally had had enough. I called my wife and she booked me the last flight out that day at 7pm for $450 but i had to switch airports to Midway. I took a $45 shuttle and 45 drive to Midway and got out on the 7pm.
Two days and one night at O’Hare International Airport, paying inflated prices for every meal, dragging my luggage from gate to gate for two days was certainly no fun.
Cost for this adventure! $870
Q. What would you do in that situation? Comments? Discussion?
FYI – Happy meals are $9.95 at the airport
