Whatwouldyoudo? Part 3

job huntingI have done my share of hiring and firing over the years and have helped people in creating their resume’ and cover letters. From my perspective as an employer I say that the resume’ should be short and sweet and just enough information to want me to call you for an interview. I don’t want to read three pages of your accomplishments in a resume’. Likewise, a cover letter introduces you to the prospective employer, and should perk his or her interest to an interview with you

First impressions are always critical when applying for a job.

I was helping a client create a resume’, which we did, and it looked great! We then worked on a nice cover letter that would make any employer want to call for an interview. A dozen or more were mailed on Monday morning with high hopes of getting some phone calls.

After a few days of the first mailing, the client calls me upset and embarrassed of the cover letter. I asked what was so wrong and stated I thought what we wrote up was great! When creating the cover letter we just jotted down all the wording and the client took it home, typed it up, and copied on nice cover paper.

Dear Sirs,
I am looking for full time employment in a growing company with advancement opportunities. I feel I can be a great ass to your organization!
(Ugh, I mean great ASSET)

True story!
