I attended a national NACBA conference in July at Long Beach, Cal and I have to tell it started out fun! My good friend Larry Anthony from Arlington, Texas and I usually hang out together at these conferences. Actually we have a small group that we hang out with every year but we had not met up with them yet.
As we arrived the first day we registered and hit the floor running. In our registration bag was an array of goodies and the proverbial name badge on a string. On the bottom of the name tag is where you display small cloth labels about 4 inches wide that tell of your accomplishments and your status. In my bag was one called SPOUSE for my wife. However, my wife was unable to attend this year as was Larry’s.
Just for fun I hung the label on my name badge and we proceeded to the exhibitor hall. It was also logo shirt night and so all the DFW people were wearing their red, white, and blue shirts with a Texas star. Once we entered the exhibitor hall and made a few stops I figured out that by wearing the spouse label the vendors were not trying to sell me anything assuming i was the spouse of a female administrator somewhere. I made the comment to Larry that this worked well as I could visit each both without the pressure of a sales pitch.
A few of our group showed up and we laughed about my spouse label and how well it worked. Here we were, Larry and I, cruising the trade show together, both wearing the same shirt, in jeans, and I was wearing a spouse label and we were in Cal. Larry turned to me and said, ” I think we are getting some funny looks from the vendors being that we look like Twinkies and you have a spouse tag on. They think we are a couple!”
We got a lot of mileage on that incident! Needless to say I removed the spouse tag! No there are no pictures of this either! Have fun!
